What does sustainability mean at Swan and The People?
You probably hear about sustainability? And do you think of a sustainable fabric, such as organic cotton?
For us, sustainability is more than that!

Time counts!
Giving people the time to make something with attention and love is the basis for a sustainable and fair production process. There must be enough time to design a product, but it is also important to give the seamstresses enough time to produce, without overworking.

When the production process is delayed along the way, often the deadline of delivery to stores is not pushed back, but the seamstresses are given a shorter time to assemble the garment. Is this a fair process? Nope. With my manufacturing background, I think it's very important that this part goes smoothly and fairly and that the seamstresses don't have to work overtime. 

Design, it's all in the details!
It is important to think about as many details as possible from the very first drawing. Due to the time pressure under which designers work, there is often no longer an eye for detail. Quantity never takes precedence over quality! Under time pressure, there is more room for error, and that always comes down to the factory. Extra work for the factory but no extra time. Swan and The People wants to improve these working conditions, make a beautiful product and conduct fair trade.

Transportation and emissions
And finally, time and attention to transportation is also important! After all, this has an immediate impact on CO2 emissions. A longer delivery time often means that goods can be bundled more and thus transported much more efficiently. Is there no time left? Then they often opt for the airplane instead of road transport. Or even a half-full truck is driven. We also want to take time for this and thus ensure a smooth and thus sustainable transport process.
